This was the motto of IT girls when they took upon themselves the Himalayan Task of participating in the tennis ball cricket tournament held in the auspices of Dean Prof. S.K Sharma. IT Girls Team lead by charismatic Prachi Mittal took on Triveni Hostel Team in their first match that boiled down to pressure cooker scenario in later stages. IT crowd was enthralled by the superb hitting from Prachi and Prerna. Fours and Sixes entertained the crowd along with beautiful sights and comments from girl’s pavilion. It was for first time ever in the history of cricket that the match was shortened by 2 over, not due to damped ground or heavy fog but to compensate for 78 extra and uncountable dead balls bowled by each side. The tough fight put forth by IT girls went in vain due to commentator’s mistake, as he announced the faulty score. Although IT girls lost the match by 1 run but they won many hearts by their enthusiastic performance on the field. Lack of seniors and experienced players (4th yearites) was the reason cited for defeat.

In their second encounter against MMV, IT girls looked much more disciplined reducing the number of extras to 16 and limiting opposition for just 78 runs. Superb spells were bowled by Madhu and Himani. IT’s chase was shattered due to magnificent spell of fast bowling by Madhvi, with top four batswoman dismissed for duck. But our tailenders didn’t succumb to the pressure and bounced back securing emphatic win by 1 wicket. Akansha was adjusted Women of Match, who also hit the winning four. Girls have thanked the boys crowd for their support during the match and have appealed to come in much larger number in future events. MMV captain blamed our unbiased umpires and scorers for defeat.
Some boys were so overwhelmed by teams performance that they have decided to act as cheerboys in future event. But what our team seriously need is a coach. Interested candidates may send in their resumes mentioning their plans and visions for our talented team through the comment box.
