Convener:Shashank


Shashank, a 4th year Mechanical Engg. Student from Jaipur is the General Secretary of Games and Sports and the Convener of Spardha ’09 thanks to his inspirational man-management skills.
He has represented the University for 3years in badminton and has won silver medals at Spardha ’07 and ’08 as well as at IIT-K’s Udghosh ’06. He also won bronze in weightlifting at Udghosh ’08. He was captained the badminton team in his 3rd year.
Shashank believes fair play, good hospitality and informal events will make Spardha ’09 a resounding success.
To ensure maximum comfort for outstation players ,he has planned a bus shuttle route between the hostels and the fields and has tried to ensure prizes for the winner in each sport.
His vision is to help his juniors in giving them a platform to jump start Spardha ’10 off of .

He says- Hit the fields and shout yourself hoarse rooting for your hometown heroes.

Co-Convener:Arun Shukla


Arun, a 4th year Mechanical Engg. Student from Allahabad is the Joint General Secretary of Games and Sports and the Co-Convener of Spardha ’09.
A state level athlete at the U-16 level, he is hailed as one of the most prolific and consistent performers in field events with 3 silvers and 2 bronze medals at Spardha in Hammer Throw, Discus and Shot-Put, and bronze in Shot-Put at IIT-K during Udghosh. For the record he has claimed gold in all three for two consecutive years at Velocity.
As Joint Secretary, he handles the responsibility of managing the festival, organizing the sports activities and promoting student welfare. He believes better accommodation, fairly judged events and attractive informals, like a Roadies-like show, will make Spardha more enjoyable than before.
His vision is to take the Gymkhana activities to the next level and increase student participation in all extra-curricular activities.

He says- Be there at Spardha ’09 to be grilled with thrill.

Cricket:Satyendra Nath

Satyendra Nath, a mechanical 4th year student, better known as "Satya", is leading our cricket team in Spardha09. Ever since he has stepped into the team, the team has tasted nothing but GOLD at Spardha. Satya also the opening bowler of the team is a wizard of swing bowling. And if that is not enough he is also a clean striker of the ball and can hit huge blows. Since cricket is a team game he banks on all his team mates. But still the key players for the team would be Anuj, Navneet and Rahul Sengar. He asks IT-Junta to come and support our enthusiastic team at Spardha this year.

Volleyball:Rashmi Bala


Rashmi Bala,a student of 2nd year chemical, the captain of the IT girls volleyball team is aiming at the top slot this year and is unfazed by the demanding workload.
She feels that playing on home ground definitely gives an edge over other teams, and trusts her team mates Priyadarshini Sharma and Shilpa Verma to help the team move up from the runners up position they’ve been holding for the past 2 years.
And hopes her IT mates would be there to see them battle it out.

Athletics:Ankita Verma


A perfect combination of brains and physique, Ankita Verma – 3rd year Mining student from Allahabad-spearheads this year’s ITBHU athletic team. Having proved her mettle in several sports events including chess (gold medal in Spardha 2008), she’s back on the tracks this Spardha. Ankita, along with her key players like Prachi Mittal, Prerna Meena, Swapnika Nag, Manju Yadav is looking at developing the team-spirit and rigorous practice sessions in the line-up towards Spardha.

Watch out for them as they breeze through the finish-line!

Table Tennis:Shruti Vyas


This resilient 4th year Chemical engineering student is all set to weave magic with her raquet again this Spardha. Having missed gold by a whisker in the previous edition of Spardha, Shruti will be looking to set the record straight once and for all.

Let’s hope the table tennis team brings laurels to our college, riding on excellent teamwork and IT junta support!

Basketball:Antari Koth


Leading the IT-girls basketball team this year is Antari Khot, a student of 3rd year B.pharm.

A committed and determined Delhiite, the captain is all set to lead her team to victory in Spardha09.

Though the team did face a few setbacks last year, it is training hard to make a strong comeback. She counts on her team mates Vijaya Bharati, Prachee Rai and Neha Tiwari to help the team get back on track and hopes the IT Junta would be there to cheer them on.

Chess:Prerna Gupta


A right combination of mental strength and agility, Prerna gupta, a 3rd year electrical student feels that her achievements in interschool chess championships have given her the right base to step up as the captain of IT girls chess team.
Having bagged the gold in Spardha 08, she’s training hard to hold on to the position this year.
Her team of masterminds, Ankita Verma, Daisy Katiyar and the captain herself are confident of tackling any challenge but would nonetheless be wary of the opposing teams.

Badminton:Upasana Dixit

Upasana Dixit, a student of 3rd year electronics has combined her talent and hard work to carve her a niche in the field of sports.
Her first significant victory was representing her city, Kota, in state level hockey… and as of now she captains the IT girl’s badminton team.
Having bagged the silver two years in a row, she intends to be a serious contender for the gold this time around.
She is banking upon her teammates Prachi Mittal and Richa Singhal to deliver a stellar performance.
With the preparation for Spardha picking up a fast pace, the team is in Great Spirit, all set to take on any challenge and trusts the home crowd to be there to share the enthusiasm.

Football:Baljit Vikas


Baljit Vikas, a fourth year student of mathematics and computing, is all set to lead his team to glory in the biggest event of IT BHU. He started his football carrier in IT BHU as a mid fielder in his freshman year and has since then toned his skills to excellence.

He is a true football enthusiast and has not missed any chance to play football in IT or outside.

The captain is banking his star players Sidharth Khandelwal, Animesh Gautam, Vihan Gupta, Deepak Singh, Diwankar Bari, Pramil Jain, Rajat, Dharmindra, Jishnu, C.B. Singh (Bullu) to deliver.

The team is all focus as they practice rigorously in the pale winter sun as they hope to tie all loose ends before the D-day.
The spirits in the dressing room are soaring as IT’s favourite team return to their favourite hunting grounds.

Volleyball:Samarth Mittal


Samarth Mittal is the captain of the Volleyball team. He hails from Sambhal, UP and is currently pursuing his B.Tech in Electronics Engineering. He has complete faith in the capability of his teammates and strongly believes that a team is only as strong as its weakest link. Ranjit, the star player of the team, is rearing to unleash his lethal smashes onto the opposition. Having already tasted success in Spardha last year, Samarth is looking forward to repeat history riding high on IT Junta’s expectations!

Swimming:Praharsh Sharma

Praharsh Sharma, B.Tech. Part-III, Department of Electronics Engineering is the Captain for Swimming Team, IT-BHU. Hailing from Aligarh (U.P.), he has been involved in the sport since childhood, pertaining to interest and hobby. Working with the focussed aim to revive and revolve the scenario of Swimming in IT-BHU, he is enthusiastic about the game and increasing interest of students towards Swimming. Developing the interest of students into the sport and transforming amateur swimmers into regular participants is his prime objective. He feels happy to have been hitherto successful and owes gratitude to the authorities for facilitating the conduct of competitions to promote the game...

Badminton:Girish Chandra


Girish Chandra Joshi is in 3rd year ceramics. Silver medalist at the last two editions of Spardha, he hopes to launch his team’s campaign with all guns blazing, hoping for a gold this time around. If the current form and dedication is maintained, he is sure to emerge victorious amidst the avalanche of blazing shuttles.

According to Girish, Amay Baokar is going to be the star for IT at Spardha, so other teams better watch out for him.

The team is counting on home crowd advantage as an impetus to perform well this fest!

Hockey:Arjun Sharma


Arjun Sharma, Mechanical Engineering student, belongs to the pink city Jaipur. A born prodigy Arjun is a state level hockey player and excels in cycle racing too. He rates Raj Kamal and Ashish Singh as the stars to watch out for. With eyes set to finish on the top, his team is sweating out in chilly winters.


Guys be there to cheer the saviour of nations pride Hockey.

Basketball:Hardeep Singh



Hardeep Singh alias Surdy, a 3rd year Engineering Physics students hails from Delhi. Flamboyant by nature, Surdy has helped IT BHU secure gold for two consecutive years now and is all set with his youth brigade to capture the bird again. He banks on Rahul Singh (chachae) to bail out the team in tense situations. Surdy is confident that 1st yearites will rise up to the occasion and bring laurels for college.

Surdy has set the high visions for the team and is determined to accomplish them; all he needs is love and support from the IT Junta

Chess:Saurabh Verma

Our chess hopes for Spardha 2009 are pinned on Saurabh Verma- 3rd year Electronics student from Kanpur, a national and district level champion for several years and gold medallist in Spardha 2008. His plethora of experience will inject tremendous zeal into the unit. The team hopes to rework their magic, once again this year, banking on sound strategy and acumen.

Table Tennis:Yogesh Rawat


Yogesh Rawat, a terrific all-rounder is a fourth year Computer Science whiz from Almora. He is the captain of our Table Tennis team and with his national level experience has already won at Spardha for 3 consecutive years . Buoyed by excellent team spirit and coordination, Yogesh along with his trustworthy mate Varinder Singh would be looking to repeat their team’s success once more.


Lot of hopes are riding on this team as they gear up to smash all records on their way to creating epic history this Spardha

Athletics:Deshraj Meena


Deshraj Meena will be leading ITBHU’s Boys athletic team. A long distance specialist, he has bagged a handful of medals -3 golds and 3 silvers-in Velocity last year and will be looking to add more to his kitty. He is optimistic that with rigorous training and an unquenchable thirst for victory, our talented team will reach new heights this year. Pramant Nagar- the sprinting prodigy and Arun Shukla would be the athletes to watch out for this Spardha.

Deshraj is truly passionate about the sport and calls on everyone to participate in the fest with full enthusiasm and dedication!
