About his present work and city…
I am presently working in BPCL, Hyderabad.
About the sports he pursued…
I was mainly associated with volleyball and athletics. I was a booster in volleyball and also tried my feet in athletics.
About his major achievements in I.T. ….
Our team won Gold medal in SPARDHA and couple of Silver medals in IIT Kanpur sports fest. Also, I was selected for the university volleyball team.

Things he would like to do if given a chance to come back to I.T.….
The first thing that I would like to do is to immediately rush to the volleyball court as I miss it very much. Also, I would love to have ‘chhola-samosa’ at L.C. and I also miss L.C. chit-chat a lot.

The hello you heard is from none other than Vinod Fauzdar whom we present to you in the third episode of our famous Happy Days series. An Electronics Engineer today was a superb spiker in Volleyball and a record holder of our University in High Jumping.

On his present work and place.. I am presently working in Piramal Glass Ltd. near Surat.
About his preferred sports… I was mainly involved in Volleyball and Athletics. I played as a spiker in volleyball and was a high jumper.
His major achievements in I.T. Our team won Gold medal in SPARDHA and couple of Silver medals in IIT Kanpur sports fest. Also I was selected for the university volleyball team. I am the BHU record holder in high jump event.
Changes witnessed during his stint… When I took admission, the 1st and 2nd year participation used to be overwhelming. However gradually things went on decline. The enthusiasm towards sports kept on decreasing due to Internet and Orkut etc.
Whether he feels satisfied on his accomplishments… Ya ya, I feel absolutely satisfied on my contributions to sports in IT.
Is he still involved with volleyball… Ya , I have joined a local club and play regularly.
Any messages for the budding players… Sure. See, Sports are not something done just for fun. It should be felt, felt from the heart. It should be considered a part of ones life as if our existence depends on it. Play from your heart.And my best wishes to SPARDHA‘09.
In the 2nd part of our regular column ‘HAPPY DAYS’ we are going to flashbacks in the life of Ankit Singhai, from Mechanical Dept., batch of ’07. He was the captain of IT cricket team and an inspirational bowler.
Excerpts from a telephonic interview- About his present job and place I am presently working in Maruti Suzuki, Gurgaon.
Regarding his involvement in sports other than cricket I was an enthusiastic footballer too and regularly participated in inter-hostel Adel memorial. About making a balance between studies and cricket Well, it’s all about commitment of the individual. If you are dedicated to the game you will easily find time for both.
On his accomplishments In the 2nd year I was adjudged the best bowler in Spardha for taking 12 wickets in 3 matches. I was also chosen to represent the university but couldn’t do so because of the semester exams. In the 4th year IT BHU cricket team reached the finals of the IIT Kanpur sports fest-Udghosh under my captaincy. I played an instrumental role in getting the wall around the cricket ground built.
On changes in the sports culture during the four years When I was in the first year the cricket team was flooded with senior players(mostly from the 3rd and the 4th year)but as time passed by more and more 1st and 2nd yearites started getting into the team and the standard of cricket went up notches. In 1st year, I remember, the crowd gathered in huge numbers and the numbers rapidly shrank in the following years.
On his current participation in sports Yes, I play for my company’s team.
On his happiest moment When I took 5 wickets in 3 overs in Spardha semifinal in 2nd year. Also, when I contributed significantly in my team’s victory in two consecutive matches in Kanpur.
Message Keep the spirits high and try to participate actively.
This section is dedicated to our distinguished alumni who were ace performers in the sporting arena. Every week we shall pay tribute to their performances by throwing light on their eventful “HAPPY DAYS”.
One of the most famous athletes in the history of our college is Vikas Sharma aka “TARZAN” bhaiya from the batch of 2008. So we tried to take a glimpse in his current life, past achievements and various incidents related to his sporting career. Here are the excerpts from a telephonic interview.
Q. Hi Bhaiya, how are you? How is life going?
R. Hi. I am fine.
Q. What are you doing presently?
R. I am presently working in Ace Cadley, New Delhi.
Q. Which were the main sports you were involved in I.T.?
R. I was mainly interested in football and athletics.
Q. What were your main achievements during your sporting career?
R. I was awarded most promising youngster by the Varanasi district football association in 3rd year. In 2nd year I represented BHU in east zonal inter university football tournament held at Ranchi university. I was district champion in under 16 table tennis. I participated in athletics for my state team. Also I was awarded the golden ball and my good friend Alok got the golden boot award in the 1st year fachha cup football.
Q. How did the sports culture change in I.T. during the 4 years you spent here?
R. Pretty interesting question. Actually when I took admission here in 2004,there were no internet connections available. So people used to participate. much more in sports. Public came in huge numbers to watch tournaments like Adil Memorial. Sometimes it became quite tough for the administration to control the crowd. Nowadays we hardly get to see such things.
Q. Is there something you would like to do if given a chance to come back here.
R. Not really. I had a wonderful time during my 4 years stintthere. I didn’t leave any jobunfinished.
Q. Do you miss I.T.?
R. Ya , I do. I have spent some of my best moments in life and I surely miss it a lot. I still have my sporting shoes which remind me of my glory days.
Q. How has sports helped in shaping your career?
R. It has helped me immensely. I have developed many qualities like team spirit, strength of character ,positive attitude because of active participation in sports. They have also helped in making me better in forming strategies and implementing them.
Q. Do you still pursue sports?
R. Ya , I do play on weekends for a local club.
Q. Most cherished moment during your career?
R. When I lost to a junior in the finals of the 100 meters race.
Q. Your message to the budding sportspersons of I.T.?
R. Challenge yourself constantly to achieve greater heights. Remember that you are competing against yourself, not others.
